Integrated Women Empowerment Program (IWEP) – Supported by dvv International Project Location: Woreda 12, Yeka Sub-City, Addis Ababa City Government Target Population: 400 Poor and Illiterate Adult Women Overall Project Objective:
To create better livelihoods of poor women by reducing level of poverty among women in project area through organizing women into SHG & empower them with functional adult literacy, skills training, and economic support.

DFT is carrying out the program to assist 400 poor women organized into 20 groups. Target women were selected and organized from 10 villages (Ketenas) to provide them integrated services of literacy, skill training and economic support with the purpose to reduce level of poverty. For the success of the project, 20 Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) facilitators were recruited and trained on how to conduct the functional adult literacy program. In collaboration with education office, DFT mobilized 15 private, public and government schools to contribute classes with full facilities for Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) Program. Women, Child and Youth Affairs Office mobilized target women to attend the FAL classes actively. Women, Child and Youth Affairs took the role of coordination of technical partners and other stakeholders. Micro and Small Scale Enterprise Office registered and provided licenses for 20 women groups. Active participation of technical partner organizations has enabled DFT to achieve planned results efficiently and effectively. Therefore, resources from the community, government and donor are utilized technically and economically to make the quarter plan of action possible. Since the end of September 2010, literacy program has begun at 15 private, public and government schools. DFT and Woreda 12 education office mobilized the local schools to contribute services of classes and educational facilities to the literacy program. 20 women groups have started saving and open saving accounts in Addis Saving and Credit Institution. 20 women groups have been registered by Micro and Small Scale Enterprise Development Office and received certificates as per the Ethiopian Government rules and regulations.
